Your Candidate for Shrewsbury Select Board

Gregg Richards and his family have proudly called Shrewsbury home since 2012. Gregg has spent numerous hours dedicating time and energy to coaching youth soccer and basketball, chaperoning field trips and volunteering for PTO events. He has been a vocal advocate in town by educating residents on key local issues. His advocacy led to the creation of The Unselects on Shrewsbury Media Connection along with Brian Costello. Gregg's diligent research and understanding of issues has helped inform and engage the community on important topics that impact residents. This experience has allowed Gregg to connect with a diverse group of residents which he is grateful for.

Gregg is an electrical engineer by trade with over 25 years of experience in leadership, innovation and management. As Vice President at NorthEast Electrical he manages a $120 million region. Gregg thrives on his ability to manage complex sales and business operations that drive his company’s success. His vast knowledge, professional background and personal skills combined with his passion for our town make him the best candidate to navigate the challenges and opportunities facing Shrewsbury.

I’m Gregg Richards and I’m running for Select Board. I am committed to putting residents first. I believe local government should serve the interests of the people. My promise to you is I will not be another rubber stamp. I believe in good governance, accountability and having integrity. I will represent the people and make myself available to hear your ideas and concerns. Trust, community engagement, thoughtful development and fiscal responsibility are key to maximizing the quality of life for all Shrewsbury residents.

Engaged Citizenry

Residents must be the top priority in local government decisions. Their needs and voices should guide the path forward. To achieve this goal, I will advocate for three key changes in how Shrewsbury's boards currently operate.

All board meetings in Shrewsbury will have 15 minutes reserved for public comment without requiring residents to give prior notice to speak.
All meeting materials and public correspondence will be available to residents online prior to public meetings.
A petition of 10 resident signatures will require boards to hold a public hearing on issues within their purview allowing dialogue between the community and elected and appointed boards.

Responsible Development

New residential and commercial development should reflect the needs and values of all our residents balancing economic gain while preserving the character of the community.

Work with the department of planning and economic development to recommend zoning changes that minimize as of right zoning. This will allow residents opportunities to voice their concerns at public hearings.
Proactively reach out to property owners with abandoned, run-down or vacant land to discuss potential redevelopment opportunities.
Prioritize open land acquisition opportunities with community preservation funds. Protect green space!

Support Our Seniors

Shrewsbury needs essential programs that provide resources and financial support to help seniors afford to stay in their homes and maintain independence.

Expand opportunities to mitigate tax impacts on seniors allowing them to stay in their homes.
Increase affordable housing for seniors in Shrewsbury allowing them to age in place.
